Hansells and Norfolk FA: Supporting Grassroots Football, Youth Development and Fair Play

As the football season draws to a close, it’s a good moment to reflect on Hansells Solicitors’ first year as the Official Legal Partner of Norfolk County Football Association (Norfolk FA). In short, it has been a hugely positive experience, one that highlights the real value of supporting grassroots football across Norfolk.
This three-year partnership was built on more than visibility. It was about making a meaningful contribution to youth football, community sport, and the promotion of respect and fair play across the game. Grassroots football plays a vital role in developing young players, not just in terms of ability, but also teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
A Season Across Norfolk Football
Throughout the season, the Hansells team had the opportunity to engage directly with local competitions. I attended three cup finals, while colleagues supported a further four. These ranged from the Senior Cup Final at Carrow Road to youth fixtures such as the Under 12 Girls’ Final at the Harrod Sports Centre.
Each event reinforced the depth and strength of grassroots football in Norfolk. From senior level down to youth competitions, there was a clear sense of pride, effort and passion from everyone involved, players, coaches, officials and volunteers alike.
Promoting Fair Play and Respect in Football
A key driver behind Hansells’ involvement with Norfolk FA is the promotion of fair play in football. As part of the partnership, we introduced the Respect Award and Fair Play Award to recognise clubs and teams that go above and beyond in demonstrating the right behaviours on and off the pitch.
Encouragingly, these values were evident throughout the season. Players consistently showed respect towards teammates, opponents and referees. Matches were competitive, but played in the right spirit, a crucial balance, especially at youth level where experiences shape long-term attitudes to sport.
Just as importantly, this respect extended beyond the pitch. While football can sometimes attract criticism around touchline behaviour, it was refreshing to see parents and supporters creating a positive environment. Passion remains part of the game, but it was largely channelled in the right way, encouraging, supportive and respectful.
Strengthening Grassroots Sport in Norfolk
Partnerships like this play an important role in strengthening grassroots sport. By supporting Norfolk FA competitions, Hansells is helping ensure opportunities remain accessible to young players across the county, including mixed teams and girls’ football at U12, U14 and U16 levels.
For Hansells, this aligns closely with our values as a Norfolk law firm rooted in the local community. Supporting youth development, encouraging participation, and promoting inclusion are all central to both grassroots football and our wider approach to community engagement.
The partnership has also provided a chance to build stronger connections with clubs, volunteers and families across Norfolk. It goes beyond sponsorship—this is about being actively involved and supporting something that has a lasting local impact.
Looking Ahead to Next Season
Ultimately, the success of this first season comes down to the people who make grassroots football happen. The players who give their all, the referees who manage the game, and the volunteers who keep clubs running week in, week out. Credit also goes to the Norfolk FA team for delivering well-organised, competitive and inclusive competitions throughout the year.
As we look ahead to next season, there is real momentum behind this partnership. The foundations are in place, and there is more to come in supporting youth football, promoting respect in the game, and celebrating fair play across Norfolk.
For now, it’s a simple message: congratulations to all involved—and we look forward to the season ahead
